Upstate collab for your nerves

Freya and Natasha met Kalen on a magical trip to Nicaragua back in 2014 visiting friends.

“When we were about to get on the bus to Maderas Village, we got a text from our dear friend Erica asking if we were in Nicaragua! Confused, we inquired why she was asking. She said her friend Kalen was at the airport and had seen a driver with a sign that said Freya & Natasha. Because Erica had spoken about us many times before, Kalen immediately recognized our names. In fact, we ended up on the same bus! We instantly bonded over our love of good food, New York (where Kalen and Erica lived), Los Angeles (where we lived), and the joy and challenges of being young, female entrepreneurs and business owners.”

This collaboration is truly years in the making. Kalen has always been an ardent supporter of Coolhaus and Future Gin, and has even brought it to her food styling shoots just to represent. We must have at least 10 Upstate pieces in our closet and lying around our house including the tie dyed linen baby blankets she gave to our first son Remy that we still use with our two year old daughter, Nico. The question was, how do we make a collaboration people will get excited about?

We created this love-child to celebrate a brighter future filled with more women-founded and women-led businesses, more community building and more giving back. A percentage of proceeds will be donated to Los Angeles Downtown Women’s Center and Women for Afghan Women. We did this by pairing our beloved gin with a piece from Upstate’s signature glass line. Each set includes 1 750 mL bottle of Future Gin and 1 handblown Upstate Kokomo glass. Note: This is a perfect gift for someone you want to impress who also values aesthetic. You’re welcome.

Future Freezer Martini

Add all ingredients to a 1L glass bottle with a screw cap or a swing top. Seal and gently mix by turning bottle upside down a few times. Freeze for at least a few hours, ideally overnight. This recipe makes ~6 martinis.
